I think I have found a new favorite Author. This is the second book I have read by Mrs. Jane Porter. Both books were really good, and both were packed high with emotions. The story's just drew me in.In this story Emmeline got her twin sister Hannah to switch places with her. It was only suppose to be for a day or two. Alejandro had told Emmeline that he loved her. Had convinced Emmeline to lose her virginity to him. When Emmeline finds out she is pregnant, she tried to call him. He blocked all the calls, and wouldn't talk to her. Desperate times, calls for desperate measures. She switched places with her sister, and dyed her hair black. When she tracked him down, he was in a bar, making out with another chick. Before she could get him to listen to her, Emmeline was man handled by Makin. It took her awhile to figure out who he was. Makin was shocked. His secretary has called out sick most of the week, and he finds her in a bar. He is so mad, that I think steam was rising and blowing out of his ears. Hanna has always been an excellent personal assistant. She always looked very professional, and bland. Wearing gray, and black suits, with shirts that buttoned up beneath her chin. He doesn't know what to think of finding his assistant in a bar, in a sexy cocktail tail dress. For the first time, he notices her curves, and beauty. Makin never mixes business with pleasure. He is uncomfortable with how his body is reacting to Hannah. Emmealine on the other hand has to fake her way through, pretending she know how to be a secretary. One thing she can't fake is morning sickness. She can't hide it. Oh how she wished she would skip that part of the pregnancy. She does not have time to deal with being sick, and learning a new job, and pretending to be someone she is not. She has no choice. Makin took her to the desert, and switching back is almost impossible without anyone noticing.
I loved how Makin started to care for Emmeline once he got to know her. this was a sweet romance with a lot of emotions. the story pulled me in, and I was not able to put the book down. I stayed up late again... until I finished it. The book was worth loss of sleep.

This is the sequel to Not Fit For A King. Actually, you will have to read the 1st book to get the context for this one. Princess Emmeline d"Arcy has switched places with look alike Hannah, the PA to powerful Sheikh Makin Al-Koury. Sheik Al-Koury is baffled by the radical change in his very efficient PA Hannah. Lately, she can't perform ANY of her tasks, so he follows her to a South Beach nightclub & sees "Hannah" approaching an Argentinian polo player who totally ignores her. The Sheik grabs her out of the nightclub & demands to know what's going on & why she has changed so drastically. You have to read the book to see how it turns out. Of course, the road to true love takes many a detour!

Desperate to avoid disgracing herself and her family, Emmeline will do anything to get her baby's worthless father to hear her out - including impersonating someone else. However, everything goes wrong and soon her baby's father is dead, Sheikh Makin has discovered that she isn't his quiet secretary after all and now he is dragging her back to face the music despite the sparks that fly between them. In the space of a few days, Emmeline goes from pregnant princess, to unremarkable secretary to Makin's Queen.
Emmeline's character was well drawn and I liked her. The book also started off well and was interesting. However, there were a few things that I did not like and kind of spoiled the book for me. First, it wasn't believable that Makin would insist Emmeline marry him. He hardly knew her and chivalry only goes so far. Although we find out Makin can't have children of his own, which explains his willingness to accept a baby not his own, it was never used as a reason for Makin to insist on marriage. Finally, he did not tell her he couldn't have children before they were married. I thought that was awful and wrong. She had a right to know. Finally, while I thought they might be on the road to love, they hadn't travelled far enough together to convince me that they they had arrived.
A moment of indiscretion and Princess Emmeline jumps into bed with playboy Alejandro. Poor Emmeline did not expect Alejandro to ignore her after the dirty deed and worse still, she's now pregnant with his child! To compound the problem, her steps as a princess is heavily tracked and she needs to approach him to tell him the news. So, she switches places with Hannah - an unassuming mousy secretary who is a deadringer for her (with the appropriate dye job and make up of course) so that she can confront the father of her child. What Hannah failed to tell her, was that she was working for a handome and oh so domineering Sheikh Makin who has suddenly taken a deep concern with her welfare. As sparks fly, would Emmeline reveal her identity? and would any man, let alone makin, be able to accept her unborn child?
So. Much. Potential. And such an interesting plot premise!! Unfortunately, the book fails to deliver and doesn't grip your emotions or attention. Perhaps it's because everything is revealed or overcome so easily, there's little build up and not much of a climax to the story at all. I read this book because I had read about Hannah's story in Not Fit for a King? (Harlequin Presents) which has a better plot development. You're better off just reading Hannah's story and skipping this book altogether. There's better "royalty" harlequin romances around, like Royal Brides Trilogy. Now that is some great writing.
